Monica Maggiano of Catholic Charities USA Selected to be Part of National Fellowship Program

Alexandria, VA— Monica Castillo Maggiano, Director of Catholic Charities USA’s Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, has been honored as one of 12 individuals nationwide selected to be part of the Independent Sector’s first-ever class of American Express NGen Fellows. Just launched at the beginning of October, the American Express NGen Fellows Program is designed to help build the next generation of nonprofit and philanthropic leaders.

“Monica is already one of the top young leaders in our organization with major responsibility for our poverty reduction program,” said Rev. Larry Snyder, President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA. “This selection and participation will only further her executive development. She will have on-line and in-person opportunities to collaborate with other talented emerging leaders, interact with seasoned leaders, and contribute to addressing critical challenges in the nonprofit community. We are very proud of her and congratulate her.”

Ms. Castillo Maggiano is the only selectee among the 12 who is from a Catholic or faith-based organization. For names and affiliations of the other NGen Fellows please go to http://www.independentsector.org/about/NGenFellows/selected09.html. Ms. Castillo Maggiano will continue her full-time responsibilities with Catholic Charities USA while participating in the 6-month fellowship program.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Ms. Castillo Maggiano joined Catholic Charities in 2005 and served in various capacities before becoming Director, Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America in November of 2007. Prior to joining Catholic Charities USA she worked in the North Carolina Office of the Governor as a bilingual support specialist with the Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service and the Office of Hispanic/Latino Affairs.

“I love what I do, and I’m really honored and flattered to be chosen to be part of this,” she said. “I’m fortunate to have this kind of opportunity and I really look forward to learning a lot and meeting and sharing ideas with the other Fellow members in the program. And of course I hope this can be helpful to Catholic Charities and the work we do to reduce poverty.”
